(The Pineapple Queen
was first produced by La Boite Theatre Company opening at the Roundhouse Theatre on July 29, 2009.)

All she ever wanted was to be crowned the Glasshouse District's Pineapple Queen — wearing a magnificent dress, riding on a float down the main street of Nambour, waving at an adoring crowd, and catching the eye of a handsome young man — a glamorous new life away from the confines of the farm she grew upon with her cruel father. Never in her wildest dreams did she believe it would actually come true. The Pineapple Queen is a darkly comic tale that is at once poetic fable and dance macabre.

"I love it. It's dark, it's full of madness and it requires an intellectual and emotional response." — Nigel Munro-Wallis, ABC

"Raw, visceral and delved into far darker territory.  Darkly comic, surreal and affecting physical theatre. The Pineapple Queen is a stunning piece of collaborative physical
and a credit to all those involved. So if you like your fairytales twisted make sure you get along to see this powerful and original show." - Australian Stage
